Diaper Rash Cure

What happens when you try just about everything to cure a diaper rash and nothing is helping? That is where I was a month ago. My 21-month-old daughter developed a serious diaper rash. I did what I would regularly do at the first sight of a diaper rash, but it wasn't enough. The tears on my baby’s face broke my heart during each diaper change.

I soon found that I needed to apply diaper cream after each changing, yet it kept getting worse. Before heading to the pediatrician I gave it one last shoot. My friend Valerie went through this a couple of months ago, so I asked her what her doctor recommended. It wasn't a prescription, but an over-the-counter cream called Belmax. I like to call it an "over-the-counter miracle." After just one application I saw a change for the better. Less then two it was all cleared up. Truly a diaper cream above all the rest.
There are many treatments that work for diaper rashes here are some of the things I have tried.
Diaper Creams:

          1. BALMEX: Miracle diaper rash cream of all creams
2. DESITIN: Works on 99.9 percent of diaper rashes.
3. A+D: Used this over night to prevent diaper rashes. I, myself, have not seen it cure diaper rashes

4. VASELINE- Recommended to me by my daughters pediatrician when I had my first daughter. When they are newborn I found it especially helpful. At this time the poop is very sticky. If you apply at each changing it will be a clean wipe. This is such a must the first several months.

5. BABY POWDER w/ Corn starch or simply CORN STARCH- I will be honest, I have not used this, but my friends have sworn by it so I must pass it on.

Don't over look the diaper wipes when it comes to diaper rashes. They may make the situation worse and a painful experience for the little ones. I love the Kirkland wipes not just as diaper wipes, but also for multiple uses. When it comes to diaper rashes put the Kirkland wipes away and reach for The Honest Company wipes. What you may not realize is that the Kirkland wipes have ingredients such as  ethylene and and ethanol that are similar to alcohol. It may be a small amount, but on a diaper rash it can be painful.  I wiped my daughter with the Kirkland wipes and it went from bad to worse to the point that she ran from me when it came to a diaper changing. I quickly turned to my Honest and they did the trick. The Honest wipes contain no alcohol and are all natural. This helped so much during this process. I hope to not be on this situation again, but if I am I will be prepared.

Baby Must Haves Registry Items

There are so many baby products out there to choose from, but there are those must haves above all the rest. Forget registering for all the bottles and bibs, I have the answers for you.

Sophie the Giraffe

Just about everyone knows the Sophie the Giraffe whether you're a parent or not. Sophie is not just the latest toy trend, it's a necessity. The popularity is at an all time high in the US, but it has been a household name in Europe for many generations. This product has been around for 50 years and over 50 million of these toys have been sold. When you see the first sight of teething reach for the Sophie. Each part is designed to help with teething. Since this is going in there mouth don't fear of toxic chemicals, Sophie is made from 100% natural rubber. According to the Sophie makers "Vulli, the company that produces the popular teething toy, has kept the exact making of Sophie Giraffe a closely guarded secret. It is known however, that there are over 14 manual operations involved and that the Vulli teether, Sophie, is still “traditionally” produced to this day." My daughter loved her Sophie and I am so thankful for it.
Aden + Anais

Aden + Anais swaddle blankets is an essential! Of course you can use it in it's traditional use as a swaddle, but I used it for more then that. If you live the cities that can hit those hot digits it's a must. Due to the breathable cotton muslin fabric I felt secure in placing it over my daughters car seat when I was out and about. I knew that the light weight fabric wasn't hold in the heat and that is very important. This was also the blanket that I used for my daughter when she first went into the crib. I wanted to make sure that when the blanket moved around she wouldn't be suffocated by the thickness or weight of the blanket. My eldest daughter, now going on four years-old, still uses her Aden + Anais blanket. Being from the valley when the nights get uncomfortable she still likes to use her blankest to cuddle with and not have the layers of heat on her. These are only a few uses for them that I have discovered. I am sure there are more.

Word of mouth has gotten around and you can see many celebrities using Aden + Anais. Even, Prince George styled his own Aden + Anais blanket as he made his debut to the world. Now, you can also have them personalized with your little ones name. Such a treasure. I know these will be going into my daughters treasure boxes to hand down to their children one day.
Prices can start as low as 34.99 for a three pack

Balboa Baby Nursing Cover

Nursing Cover Measures 26" height x 46" wide
price vary from $35.99 and up depending on style
There are so many nursing covers, but I found the Balboa nursing cover to be the best due to the quality and the shape. I didn't feel as if a heavy blanket was on me or my little one. I would put it over my daughter as I had her in my baby carrier and I could walk around hands free with out any concerns. The shape of the Balboa allowed me to be able to nurse her without concerns of over exposing myself due to the fabric securely in place. The fabric is structured so that the neckline hold the fabric away from me. I could therefore peek in on her to see if she was feeding, taking a break or just to enjoy the moment, all while enjoying a cup of water. It also had an additional use for me as a stroller cover.

This is on of the original baby pillows that allows you to nurse your baby with additional support. I loved the Boppy. I would just place my little one on the Boppy, adjust her to where she and I would be comfortable and just let her nurse. To those working moms who have to rush home and go straight into nursing , you can use this support, for it allows you to get a bit to eat while you nursing. When I got home my daughter would nurse from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. I just placed a burping cloth on top her and have my dinner. It's not ideal, but she had to eat and I had to eat and the Boppy gave me the support to do that. I also had an additional use for the Bobby. I would place it behind my daughter to support her while she played with her toys. This way if she tipped over she would land on something soft. Child must be supervised if she is not able to roll out of positions or not able to hold themselves up yet.

The City of Lights Knot Dress and Nightfall Ruffle outfit is just darling. Not only is it cute as a set, but apart it works just as great. My daughters are pixies so for them the City of Lights knot Dress will work as a top the older they get. I know this true to be for many moms. It's not just for this season, but for every season. They will get a use out of this dress for years to come!

Hello Summer Tank top $32.00 with Pink Petal Ruffle Capris $36.00 (left) Broadway dress (right)
Love! Love! the Broadway dress on my darling Madeleine. It is from a past collection, but that doesn't make a difference, cute is cute!!! I just love how dramatic the purple is. Matilda Jane Clothing is all so unique that anyone who knows the line can point it out a mile away. We can also recognize the imitations.

A item that I found that is a more casual piece in the Matilda Jane line is the Hello Summer Tank. I love the piece because I can dress it up with a tutu skirt as we head to a birthday party or with jean short for preschool. The great detail on the tank makes it cute no matter where she goes. For those moms that want quality and with a dash of detail this is the tank for your little one.

Fly Away with Me Fancy Sara Top $46.00 (above)
How cute is this top! I picked the Fly Away with Me Fancy Sara top  because it is just so carefree and really lives up to it's name. It is such a happy top, with a real vintage look. As all the clothing it has such great detail to add a feminine look to it.

Rain or Shine Maggie Dress $58.00  (left) Golden Love Me Dress $54.00 (right)

Hello Kitty is not a Cat! Are you kidding me?

If you haven't hear the big announcement... Hello Kitty is not a cat. She's a girl. A British girl. I don't know about you, but this is just crazy talk.

Christine R. Yano, the author of "Pink Globalization: Hello Kitty's Trek Across the Pacific," told The Los Angeles Times "Hello Kitty is not a cat. She's a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She's never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature," Yano explained. Guess what, my daughter watches Sheriff Cali and "she walks and sits like a two-legged creature" and she is a cat.
When Hello Kitty first came out it just said Hello
It may shock you even more she is not Asian, she is a British little girl named Kitty White. According to the LA Times in the 70's a Japanese woman were in Britain when the they loved the concept of Hello Kitty being British.

"Hello Kitty was done in the motif of a cat. It's going too far to say that Hello Kitty is not a cat. Hello Kitty is a personification of a cat." Sanrio spokesperson describe Hello Kitty was "gijinka" (擬人化), which means "anthropomorphization" or "personification." One again, to clarify, I asked the Sanrio spokesperson, "Then, it would be going too far to say that Hello Kitty was not a cat?" The spokesperson replied, "Yes, that would be going too far.

My daughter playing with one of many of her Hello Kitty
doll her auntie loves to buy her
Is this a form of fraud? Maybe. Hello Kitty has been an international success since she was created. I am sure that at some point Sanario realized that it was a common belief that Hello Kitty was, well a kitty cat. Now they tell us she is not a cat. It's like finding out that Santa Claus doesn't exist, only mom and dad didn't wait 40 years to tell me! Internationally I also think this is heart breaking for the Asian culture has has seen her as their own.

LA Times:
"When Hello Kitty arrived in the US in the mid-1970s, it was a commodity mainly in Asian enclaves: Chinatowns, Japantowns, etc.," explains Yano. "In talking to Japanese Americans who grew up in the 1970s, they say, 'That figure means so much to us because she was ours.' It's something they saw as an identity marker. This is why the exhibition is being held at the Japanese American National Museum. It's about reconnecting her to this community. It gives the whole thing a certain poignancy and power."

To be fair to Sanrio when I went to their website to learn more about Hello Kitty's it does say she is a girl. Many things can be lost in translation. according to Kotaku:

The character's official profile never says she is human, and among cat lovers in Japan, it's very common for cats to be referred to as "girl" or "boy," instead of by the Japanese gender markers designated for animals (namely, "osu" or 雄 for "male" animals and "mesu" or 雌 for female animals). The reason for this is that by using terms like "girl" or "boy" for animals, they can personify them through vocabulary and raise them above the status of mere "pet" to a member of the family.

Just the beginning of my daughter's Hello Kitty collection
So, yes I am shocked to learn she is a girl, but is she really a human girl? I love her as a little girl or as a cat. What else do you need to know about Hello Kitty? Her favorite color is red, she is a Scorpio, her hight is around 5 apple pies, weighs about 3 apple pies and you guessed it loves apple pie. She lives outside of London, you know since she is British. She may not be a cat, but she does have a pet cat named Charming Kitty. Click here for her full back storyFor you Hello Kitty fans you can also get your own Hello Kitty e-mail address. So forget about getting an @gmail account it could be! You got to love her!

Crafts & DIY: I Love My Mason Jars

I am huge fan of the mason jars for various reasons. They can be used for decorating, storing, gifts and so much more. They seem to have endless possibilities. If you look around, you will see the mason jars are just about  everywhere. I've seen them used as candle holders, soap dispensers, drinking glasses and more. Here are some of my favorite ways of using them. You just can't go wrong! I did have a small mason jars filled with chocolate candy as a party favor to share, but I ate them all before I made it home.

Mason Jars in its traditional form of storing jam... yummy!

Mason Jars party favors are making the rounds. I think this is so clever. My friend just filled the jars up with M&M'S and added ribbon as a party favor. So simple and  cleaver. Below is a
mason jars wedding favor, the M&M's party favor never made it home. It was that good. Now that is a yummy party favor.

Mason jar wedding favor. All the ingredients to making your own
cookies at home.

Don't be limited by putting ingredients in a mason jar. I was at Cupcakes Couture of Manhatton Beach and saw a twist to a cupcake, by using a thin small mason jars. Just forgo the wrapper.

Have you heard of a cupcake in a mason jar?
Love this to go order.

Vases... I was at a friends home and saw a variety of places she used the Mason Jars as a vase. The first was the bathroom. It gave it a chic feel. Another way she used it was as a center pice next to a display of her wedding picture. Flowers are beautiful on their own. If you don't want a traditional vase to overtake your flower arrangement, simply put them in a mason jar and enjoy their elegance.

Just place your flowers in a mason jar,
and it will add a vintage style to your home

I filled this mason jar with soaps from Hawaii.
This adds a beach feel to my bathroom

Shabby Chic Mason Jar Birthday Center Pieces:

I wanted a Parisian/ Shabby Chic theme to my youngest daughter's birthday party. I took several mason jars and used them as center pieces for the guest tables. I painted each one with different shabby colors, I added some flowers and voila! The tables had a fun, cutesy feel that I loved. It was really simple and added a unique element. A few "how to" I can share from experience-- be gentle when washing the glasses, the paint may come off upon scrubbing (I learned that first hands:).  And you must use a sealer after painting. You can find that at your local hardware store.

Clean your mason jars and pick your paint colors

Add a second layer once they are dry
